Sometimes you just need to #getoutside and find some headspace! This week has been pretty challenging for me in terms of my commute – the evening journey has taken 2-2.5hrs due to traffic on multiple days. Whilst I love my audiobooks, I often get home completely exhausted and feeling like I don't have time to unwind before getting up at 6am to do it all over again… When everything gets too much I head outside – for a run, for a walk or just to stand and breathe. It always makes me feel better! If you'd have asked me 5 years ago about what superpower I'd choose to have, I'd have probably told you the ability to fly. But thanks to my drone I already feel like I can, my mind is still blown everytime I fly it, and it's not something I think I'll tire of. . . Today I cimbed 'the Castle' & Beinn a'Chroin in beautiful snow conditions. Some slightly hairy scrambling, over 1000m of ascent, painful spindrift, freezing 45mph winds & lots of bogs but I loved it! Enjoying a different view of Skye ⛰ Beautiful sunshine for a little #GetOutside adventure over the water to Raasay. Wandered up to the bothy at the Northern tip of the island for some time out. Not a soul in sight other than a few sheep, some braying seals, slick seabirds and a beautiful pair of red grouse. Kept warm with whisky hot chocolate and watched the stars with Pip the Pup (the best night sky I've seen this winter, it looked like spilt glitter!) I often struggle to explain what I do, trying to explain myself as a runner, hiker, climber. But If I'm honest I do a lot more, and what I do is somewhat unconventional. I am inspired by skiers, BMXers and skateboarders, often reading @grey_skate_mag and watching @candidethovex – hence the jumping around, finding trees to jump though and gap lines in the woods, mountains and urban environments. I like to climb, but my favourite days are ones where I combine running and easy solo mountain climbing, linking routes and running in-between, carrying only the essentials. It makes sense then to only use my phone as my everything, my camera, my maps, etc. Coming back from skiing this week has made me realise just how similar my running is to how I ski. Bombing through the woods, hitting every side hit on the piste and not missing an opportunity for a gap jump. I suppose I just run for me, climb for me and do it my way. I’ve finally plucked up the courage to enter my first ‘proper’ 10k race. Your probably thinking 10k is not far, but to me it’s a challenge…..my challenge. Believe me I am no natural runner ( so slow! ) Apart from the fitness side it’s overcoming the nerves that’s going to be the hardest part for me. My heart rate shoots up just thinking about it! Roll back the clock a couple of years ago and I didn’t have the confidence to run outside, so it really is going to be mind over matter and lots of positive thoughts. The summit of Fan Nedd. Fan Nedd can be found in the Fforest Fawr area of the Brecon Beacons National Park. Elevation of 663m its long flat top summit has a OS Triangulation Pillar to the southern end and a cairn marks the northern part of this plateau. One of my favourite routes to the summit is from the Crai Reservoir.
