I am a huge fan of Musto. I’ve worn their kit riding, sailing, walking and even just around the house when doing uni work, because it’s comfy (I’ll add here I mean their tshirts and leggings, not foulies). They make wonderful clothing and when I was given the opportunity to test out one of their lighter weight sailing jackets, I accepted willingly.

The Sardinia BR1 Jacket is designed for, I would say, warmer weather inshore sailing and, whilst I didn’t get a chance to put it through its paces on the water, it held up incredibly well in some of the less then beautiful weather we’ve had recently. The water just beads and rolls off the fabric and there are also rubber cuffs with tab fasteners to keep yourself dry. It’s incredibly lightweight, breathable and has a mesh inner lining, for comfort. It feels incredibly robust and bombproof and I think it would accept most weather you throw at it. Of course, for cooler inshore sailing, you can just layer up as always.

The seams are all taped, meaning an incredible level of waterproofing and, if the weather does decide to play ball, the hood both folds away or can be removed via a zip, which is great and one of the downfalls I had with a Helly Hansen jacket I reviewed last year.

I always comment on pockets, when it comes to jackets and this doesn’t disappoint. There are two standard pockets as well as one on the chest and one inner zipped pocket, with cable exit for headphones. In terms of fit, it does so, incredibly well and feels comfortable to move in. There’s also a drawstring fastener to tighten it up if needed.

All in all, this jacket is superb and I cannot recommend it enough for lightweight sailing or even walking, which is what I’ve used it for whilst reviewing. I can’t wait to get it out on the water and at £119 from Marine Superstore it’s absoluely a steal.
