Becoming a GetOutside Champion

If you follow me on any form of social media, you won’t have missed the announcement that I have been selected from over 460 applicants to be a GetOutside Champion for Ordnance Survey this year, 2017.

To say I was excited to have been chosen would be an understatement. The company I will be in is second to none, and I didn’t think I stood a chance when I applied. There were people who had climbed Everest and scaled peaks I can only dream of!

There was definitely a squeal or two… (or six) when I received the email.

Anyone who knows me knows that I am appalling at keeping secrets, so not telling anyone was difficult, but Zoe over at Splodz Blogz asked the question we were all wondering, when could we tell people? Et voila! here we are!

I know a few people are wondering what being a GetOutside Champion entails… Read on to find out more!

The GetOutside Champions are tasked with inspiring and helping people to, as the name suggests, get outside in Britain in 2017!

Outside is where I’m happiest. Not only that, but it’s good for your health, it’s beautiful and better than that? It’s often free. No expensive gym memberships needed here.

When I received the email I couldn’t take it in initially. The champions for 2016 were such incredibly inspiring people, and I only hope I can spread some of that inspiration to those of you reading my blog, following me on social media and those I teach as part of the Sea Cadet Corps.

The link to see those chosen to be GetOutside Champions in 2017 is here – and you’ll see what I mean when I say I am in great company. To be on that list with people I’ve long admired is truly a privilege.

I’m super excited to meet everyone and learn more from OS, when we all meet in the New Forest at the end of the month!

Adventure can be found everywhere…

Whilst I am based 20 minutes from the New Forest, and not too long a drive from Dartmoor, I’m planning on making the most of seeing what the UK has to offer along with you, and to get out and about hiking in places I’ve not yet been (the highlands for one!).

We are fortunate in the UK to have such beautiful countryside, whether you prefer walking near lakes, mountains or on relatively flat ground (New Forest, I’m looking at you!) there really is something for everyone.

Adventures can be found in your own back yard, you don’t have to spend hundreds of pounds flying abroad or on climbing mountains, and that’s the beauty of Great Britain!

So, join me in getting outside this year and keep me updated with your progress!
