CLIF Bar

You may remember me mentioning CLIF Bars in my ‘On the Go Energy Boosting Snacks’ post – here – and mention I did for good reason. I love this brand so much.

After discovering them at the Banff Mountain Film Festival Tour, I now take CLIF Bars out on walks with me, I took them up Kilimanjaro and I have been known to keep a couple in my drawer at work for when hunger strikes…

Yesterday, I went on a walk in the New Forest, and so it was only natural that I took a selection with me

(I didn’t eat them all, as tempted as I was)

Who are CLIF Bar?

I vaguely knew the history of CLIF Bar from an article I read a couple of years ago and the packaging explains it as well, but whilst climbing Kilimanjaro, one of the guys I was with told me they were named after the founder’s father.

Gary Erickson, the founder of CLIF Bar, was on a 175 mile bike ride and eating an energy bar, when he decided he wanted to make one that tasted better. He headed to his parents kitchen and 2 years later, CLIF Bar was born, he named the brand after his father Clif (Clifford), who he used to travel and adventure with!

Which I think is an incredible gesture.

Why choose CLIF Bar?

CLIF Bars are designed to help keep you filled with energy, when on the go, wherever you are!

The idea behind it is simple… put good food in to get good performance out, and CLIF Bar do this by combining organic ingredients, filled with protein and fibre, as well as 11 vitamins, including vitamins B6 and B12, essential for energy release within the body.

Packed with carbs, the bars supply your muscles with fuel needed for extended activity, so they’re perfect for those of us who are partial to a long hike or a bike ride. However, they’re also small and easy to pack if you’re heading out climbing/skiing etc…

They come in so many flavours – Oatmeal Raisin Walnut, Chocolate Chip, Crunchy Peanut Butter, Blueberry Crisp, Chocolate Almond Fudge, White Chocolate Macadamia Nut and now Coconut Chocolate Chip! More ifyou’re in the US though!

I sat and ate my Coconut Chocolate Chip CLIF Bar mid walk, accompanied by coconut flavoured coffee, can you tell I like coconut?

You can buy CLIF Bars in a variety of shops – Tesco, Boots, Go Outdoors and Holland & Barrett, to name but a few, and they retail for about £1.60 each.

Nutritional Information

Obviously, this will change based on flavour and contents, but if you want the specific nutritional information per far, it’s on either the packaging, or online – here!

Other Products

CLIF SHOT Energy Gels are amaaazing, and I took a load of these up Kilimanjaro with me as well. The citrus flavour (25mg caffeine) is my favourite, but they also come in Chocolate, Razz and ‘Double Expresso’ which boasts a massive 100mg of caffeine!

These are truly designed for people on the go, and even the packaging is designed to stay together, so nothing gets left behind. CLIF Bar are one of the most sustainable brands I’ve come across, and this only adds to the reasons I love them. The CLIF Shots retail for around £1.59 and again, just a few places you can find them are Tesco, Go Outdoors or Holland & Barrett.

CLIF BLOCKS Energy Chews, easy to chew and grab on the go and 33kcal per chew are another product, which I’m going to definitely be keeping an eye out for! They come in Mountain Berry, Strawberry, Tropical Punch and Black Cherry flavours, and the caffeine amount varies. They retail for around £2.69 a pack.

CLIF BUILDER’S are specifically a protein bar. These are designed to be quick and easy to grab after a workout and are packed with 20g of protein. I’ve only tried the Chocolate Mint flavour before, but they also come in Chocolate Peanut Butter and Chocolate flavours! Again, these are organic and use soya protein, so they are also suitable for vegans!

They retail at around £2.35 each.

Even the New Forest ponies seemed interested!

CLIF bar are also a great company to follow on social media, they have their own team of athletes and they post so many inspirational photos.

Find them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram

Have you tried CLIF Bars? Would you in future?
* I was kindly sent this selection by the company responsible for CLIF Bar in the UK, but the above is, as always, my honest opinion. I buy these regularly and am a huge fan! 🙂
